Go inside the worlds of art, fashion, design, and lifestyle.
In order to give you the best of Atlanta, Whitewaller spoke with gallerist Arnika Dawkins, who shared her side of the city.
BEST OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH PLACE TO SEE ART
Neighborhoods such as Little Five Points, West End, and Inman Park, have a plethora of off-the-beaten-path places to see local art and really cool murals. There are many other areas throughout greater Atlanta that offers a drive-by a glimpse of art, on streets, on homes, and within the landscape. Atlanta is unique in the way that the city is so spread out. Each pocket or area is a facet to the larger Atlanta art scene. Hop in the car and take the back roads from Adair Park to East Atlanta Village and you will be surprised with all the artistic nuances embedded in our city.
FAVORITE SPOT IN THE CITY TO FIND INSPIRATION
Atlanta has been affectionately called the “city in the forest,” as it is known for its southern cityscape. Combining the green nature of the city, city life, and its southern hospitality foster an inviting environment for creatives to easily find inspiration. As a creative myself, it is easy to find inspiration everywhere, from the landscape, people, and abundant culture.
BEST-KEPT SECRET IN ATLANTA
Atlanta’s best-kept secret is no secret at all, it is its people! Atlanta is known as a guaranteed good time for any incoming travelers. This is because the people that live here are our main attraction. The people behind the southern hospitality, great restaurants, fun neighborhood shopping, etc. make the activities within Atlanta that much more pleasurable.
FAVORITE SPOTS TO INDULGE AND RELAX
My husband, Stephen, and I consider ourselves gastronomes. Atlanta does not disappoint our culinary pastime. Over the 30 years that we have been based in Atlanta, we still have a sense of discovery. However, to name a few of our top favorites, Red Bird, Miller Union, Superica, Soto Soto, and Bacchanalia, are all fantastic! Atlanta continues to be adaptive and quick to a resolution to offer many pick-up or dine-in, and open-air porch options to be safe during the current pandemic.
