To hear about his top spots in Lake Como, Whitewall spoke to Chef Mattia Agazzi of Gucci Osteria, Beverly Hills.
FAVORITE SPOT TO FIND INSPIRATION
The Abbazia Cistercense di Piona (Piona Abbey), which is located on the Olgiasca, a small peninsula stretching towards the Northern branch of Lake Como. It is a fascinating spot; really peaceful, and perfect for pausing, reflecting, and observing the beauty that nature gifts us with.
BEST OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH TO SEE ART
As a former cyclist, I have crossed through the Lombardy region far and wide. So, inevitably, the first place that comes to my mind is the Madonna del Ghisallo—ol ghisal, as said in dialect. For cycling enthusiasts, I believe this is the best cycling museum in the world, gathering from memorabilia that mark the early history of cycling to modern items. Besides that, the village hosts one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen, featuring paintings that date back to the 16th century.
BEST-KEPT SECRET IN LAKE COMO
Once you have visited Como, all the small andoften unknown villages and towns scattered across the region are a must to visit. It’s the best-kept secrets! At the top of the list, there’s the Santa Maria Rezzonico beach—a calm, tiny spot that very few know about. It’s great for relaxing and hiding from the rest of the people.
