To hear about her top spots in Miami, Whitewall spoke to Paola Oxoa, Founder of Mother Gallery.

FAVORITE SPOT TO FIND INSPIRATION Always on the outskirts of the city, where nature creeps in—that includes the shorelines and the beaches, being in and on the water, around mangroves and epiphytes. The Venetian Causeway, the architecture along Brickell Avenue, the Art Deco district in South Beach—all have been sources of inspiration—as well as the weirdo things that happen along the Miami River. Any Cuban cafeteria. Order a colada.

BEST OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH PLACE  In Miami, I think the best-off-the beaten-path place to see art is in situ at collectors’ homes. I also love seeing public art in Miami, because the city itself is such a great container for big ideas. The Felix Gonzalez-Torres billboards in the nineties had a huge impact on me while growing up there. I also forever love Coral Castle, the mysterious monument to heartache, which is what I most associate with the city.

BEST-KEPT SECRET IN MIAMI  Goth night.
