To learn more about her favorite spots in Detroit, Whitewall spoke with Tamara Warren, Founder of Le Car.
BEST-KEPT SECRET IN DETROIT
Somewhere In Detroit Record Shop. Techno music started in Detroit and if you can find this store and actually get in the door, you've found the source, and a reason Detroit's been a global destination for dance music lovers over the past four decades.
BEST OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH PLACE TO SEE ART
Tyree Guyton's Heidelberg Project is worth the trek to the East Side. It's become such an important part of Detroit's cultural history over the past 35 years.
FAVORITE SPOT IN THE CITY TO FIND INSPIRATION
Whereever musicians are working, recording, and playing. From iconic spots like Baker's Keyboard Lounge, to the Motown Museum on the Boulevard, to new venues like Spot Lite, there's a vibe that lingers in these rooms. Detroit has always been about artists transforming their surroundings, going back to the jazz age.
When it comes to the physical landscape, I love to pop by the mid-century architectural gems throughout the city, like Mies Van der Rohe's Lafayette Park. I grew up going to the DIA, and William-Adolphe Bouguereau's "Nut Gatherers" feels like I've come home, before entering the tremendous Rivera Court.
